Weddings today quite often can easily follow a path that leads into a ceremony and reception that all have the same flavor int he end. The problem is that your guests have ll been there and done that before. If you really want your wedding to be fun and memorable, why not try a theme? Having an 80's wedding theme can be awesome.
This funny period in history saw the likes of Madonna, Michael Jackson, Cyndi Lauper, and tons of one-hit-wonders like Nu Shoes, and Flock of Seagulls. TV was at it's prime with Cheers, Silver Spoons, The Cosby Show, The A-Team, and classic cartoons like Heman, GI Joe and The Ninja Turtles.

This article has a comprehensive list of 80s ideas across the board so that your wedding will be an "awesomized" success.
INVITATIONS - Do it all 80′s style. Set your atmosphere right from the start, when you send out your invitations to get your RSVP's. What I always suggest to do before putting anything down on paper is do a l ttle research. Go online and do a Google Image search and see what the 80's looked like. Looking these pictures will probably bring up flashy neons and pastels that became the visual trademarks of this era.
DRESS CODE - No matter what pictures/images that you choose to use, or what color scheme you may go with, the most important thing is to mention your dress code. If the bride and groom agree, remember to have everyone come to your party dressed like they are stuck in the 80s. A great way to do this is to ask everyone you invite to actual come dressed as their, "favorite 80′s pop star or actor."
THE RIDE - Automobiles were awesome in 1980. Why not make the grand intro to your ceremony with the proper wheels. Think about it... it may be very appropriate to cruise up a DeLorean instead of a limo!Or how about an A-team van or a Knight Rider entrance! Now that is fresh!
FAVORS - How about some "Custom Mix" tapes? Serious! Break out the tape recorder dual decks and get dubbing. If cassette tapes feel like a waste of time, however, you could always burn CDs with 80's music and tv/movie themes on them. This would be awesome!
CENTERPIECE RETRO BASKETS - A retro basket of 80's garbage is totally awesome. I was once the disc jockey for one 80s wedding were they created baskets full of retro 80's stuff like pop rocks, magic eight balls, Star Wars and GI Joe action figures (which newlines exist now in the toy stores) and what ever eBay has to offer.
So who gets the centerpiece? Well, how about a Rubik's Cube Contest where the winner is named as being whoever solves the most sides within one song. The table's Rubik champion will then get to take the centerpiece home.
CLOTHING - You can go with anything here. Let your mind go wild and be creative. If I were throwing an 80s wedding, I would have the bridesmaids decked out in black and white lace like Madonna. And for my groomsmen, I would go Miami Vice with the oh-so-sexy light pastel jackets, remembering to have the sleeves rolled up to the elbow. (Tom Selleck mustaches would be a nice bonus touch, as well.)
Other styles included nasty bleach-stained and ripped-up jeans, flashdance legwarmers, trashy heavy makeup, teased-up hair styels, and cut up neaon t-shirts. For accessories, you totally have to do some retro shopping and bring back the jelly/plastic bracelet's, swatch watches with the guard, and sunglasses ala Tom Cruise of Risky Business.
Hip hop became very popular in the 80s, and today we call it old school. Why not encourage your hommies to hop in to the deffest Adidas jumpsuits and put on some stupid fresh gold chains?
WORD LISTS AT TABLES - In the 80′s, "Valley Girl" speak totally took off. Find a dictionary online and put them on slips of paper that you can share on each table setting.
DECORATIONS - Think neon! Pink and blue streamers all over the room like the way all the 80s movies decorated the school dances may be an option.
Also, 80's were about the pin-up mags. Therefore, posters and pictures of Back To The Future, Silver Spoons, Alf, Wendy's Where's The Beef? Gear, The A-Team, and The Ninja Turtles are a must, pinned up everywhere you can. You also could toss those garbage pail collecting cards around.
You may find a world of resources in the Old Teen Beat magazines, and Vintage clothing stores. Posting on the wall Michael Jackson gloves/ jackets, cardboard celebrity cut-outs, Cabbage Patch Kids, and don't forget movie posters like Pretty in Pink, Breakfast Club and Sixteen Candles.
RECORD SINGLES - Look for the smaller 1980's record singles. You know, those 45′s from the eighties. If you can find a bunch of them, put them everywhere. Either hang them up or put them on the tables. They make great conversation pieces and look cool too.
80s ACTIVITIES - There are some great 80s them activities you can engage in, in addition to your flower and garter toss traditions. Lip synch contests Breakdance Contests, and Jeopardy Challenge (80s trivia) are all awesome ideas. Name that 80′s theme, The Pepsi Challenge Drinking Game, and even Atari Video Game Challenges may be the way to go.
ATARI! If you can't afford a legit Arcade game set up in your hall, Atari recently re-released a retro shout out that has the feel of the original Atari home entertainment system. Look it up!...Imagine Asteroids, Space Invaders, Pac-Man or Combat contest using the original joystick!
Have fun with it and don't be afraid to be different. I had a Pirate Theme Wedding and everyone told me the theme, for sure, made it the most memorable wedding ever. If you have the guts, 80s might be the key to your success.
